It's Time to Do Something!
Mary Southerland
Today's Truth
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another (
1 John 4:11, NIV).
Friend to Friend
I could not tear my eyes away from the television screen as the 33 miners began to emerge from the depths of what could have been their mass grave. The men had been trapped for more than two months in the collapsed Chilean copper mines nearly half a mile underground. Everything I have read or heard about the tragedy is extraordinary.
The miners survived the early days by rationing food and working together as a team. Each man was assigned a job, one of which was to maintain peace and harmony until they were rescued. The selfless mining supervisor who insisted on being the last to leave his underground prison showed the world what it really means to put others first. I was amazed at the selflessness of the rescue worker who became the initial guinea pig for the rescue capsule and then chose to stay behind - alone - while the world celebrated above.
I wonder how long it will take us to forget. How long will we remember that the world came together to save a group of strangers? Will the powerful lessons of their rescue make any difference in the way we treat each other?
We all know what it is like to be trapped in a pit of some kind. It is probably not a collapsed mine, but pits are all basically the same.
Our world has collapsed under the weight of fear and pain.
No one seems to care. In fact, a lot of people have written us off as a lost cause.
People are too busy to recognize or understand our hopelessness.
Darkness prevails and rescue seems impossible.
We are wounded, sick and tired.
Civil war rages in our souls as we struggle to obey God instead of giving in to sin.
I truly believe that every day is filled with divine appointments - opportunities to rescue people who are trapped in some kind of pit. We miss the emptiness reflected in the eyes of the sales clerk or simply choose to ignore the homeless man begging for money so he can buy food. After all, we are in a hurry and have more important things to do. The sales clerk would probably be embarrassed if I said anything and that homeless man would probably just use the money I give him for drugs or alcohol.
The ringing phone is someone in need but we don't care enough to answer. Our neighbor does not know God but her life is a mess and we really don't want to get involved. Instead of taking action and doing what we know God wants us to do, we decide it is enough to pray for that neighbor and leave the messy part of God's work to someone else.
I am so guilty of walking away from someone in need instead of running to their rescue. I am in pain, too, and my pain is more important than theirs. I may not actually say those words, but I don't have to. My actions are blatant illustrations of my own egotism and self-absorption.
I do not want to be like the priest who nonchalantly strolled by the wounded and bleeding man lying on the road. I want to be like the Good Samaritan who stopped and saved the wounded man's life. I want to be "God with skin on."
One day, just as rescue workers descended into that Chilean mine, Jesus Christ will descend into this broken world and rescue us from the pit of human frailty. Until then, let's be His hands and feet. Let's love Him so much that we just have to do something about it.
Let's Pray
Father, I come to You today with a heart of praise for the way You meet every need in my life and how You constantly rescue me from the darkness. I want Your heart, Lord. I want to be Your hands and feet to the people You place in my path. Give me eyes to see their need and the courage to do something about it. Please guard my heart against pride and selfishness. I want to please and honor You alone.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Now It's Your Turn
It is sometimes hard to love someone in need, but God calls us to look beyond their rough exterior and see the pain hidden there.
Read
Ephesians 4:2. "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Notice the action words. What would your daily life look like if you took action and lived out this verse?
Is there someone in your life who is hurting? How can you ease their pain?
Is there someone in your life who is wounded? How can you help them heal?
Is there someone in your life who has fallen into some kind of pit? How can you help rescue them?
Make a specific plan to meet a specific need in someone's life today. Then do something about it!
More from the Girlfriends
We are living in tough times. It is easy to get so wrapped up in our own problems that we fail to see the needs of others. Today, I am issuing a challenge to all of us, girlfriends! Look around. Find someone in need and take action. We are never more like our Father than when we love and serve someone in His name.
I would love to hear your story! How did God use you to meet a need in the life of someone? How did someone meet your need?

Jesus Christ said; "Love your enemies, do good
to those who hate you, bless those who
curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."
( Luke 6:27-28 *NIV )
Dear Friend,
As you know it is written;
'Love your neighbor as
yourself.' ( Matthew 19:19 & Leviticus:18.)
So today I would like to share with you a message that was
sent to me by one of our subscriber's. May it minister to you
as it has to me. It is titled.....
The Dart Test...
A young lady named Sally, relates an experience she had in
a seminary class, given by her teacher, Dr Smith. She says
that Dr Smith was known for his elaborate object lessons.
Now one particular day, Sally walked into the seminary and
knew they were in for a fun day.
On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many
darts. Dr. Smith told the students to draw a picture of some-
one that they disliked, or someone who had made them angry,
and he would allow them to throw darts at the person's picture.
Sally's friend drew a picture of who had stolen her boyfriend.
Another friend drew a picture of his little brother. Sally drew a
picture of a former friend, putting a great deal of detail into her
drawing, even drawing pimples on the face. Sally was very
pleased with the overall effect she had achieved.
The class lined up and began throwing darts. Some of the
students threw their darts with such force that their targets were
ripping apart. Sally looked forward to her turn, and was filled
with disappointment when Dr. Smith, because of time limits,
asked the students to return to their seats. As Sally sat thinking
about how angry she was because she didn't have a chance to
throw any darts at her target. Dr. Smith began removing the
target from the wall.
Underneath the target was a picture of Jesus. Needless to
say a hush fell over the room as each student viewed the mangled
picture of Jesus; holes and jagged marks covered His face and
His eyes were pierced.
It was then that Dr. Smith said only these words...
'Assuredly,
I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the
least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
( Matthew 25:40. )
No other words were necessary; as tears
filled eyes of the students, as they focused only on the mangled
picture of Jesus Christ.
"It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceeds
from the mouth of God."
( Matthew 4:4 * NKJV )
Dear Friend,
Just as we need food to sustain our human body,
we also need spiritual food to sustain our Spiritual
body as well!
Now a good meal should consist of vitamins and
minerals, and perhaps a dessert. So today we will
look at Biblical Vitamins for our Spiritual well being.
When Anxious, take vitamin "A"
All things work together for good to those
who love God, to those who are the called
according to His purpose. ( Romans 8:28 )
When Crushed, take vitamin "C"
Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares
for you. ( 1 Peter 5:7 )
When Depressed, take vitamin "D"
Draw near to God and He will draw near
you. ( James 4:8 )
When Empty, take vitamin "E"
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
and in to His courts with praise. Be
thankful to Him, and bless His name.
( Psalms 100:4 )
When Fearful, take vitamin "F"
Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed,
for I am your God. ( Isaiah 41:10 )
When Greedy, take vitamin "G"
Give, and it will be given to you: good
measure, pressed down, shaken together,
and running over will be put into your
bosom. ( Luke 6:38 )
When Insecure, take vitamin "I"
I can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me. ( Philippians 4:13 )
When Lonely, take vitamin "L"
I am with you always, even to the end of
the age. ( Matthew 28:20 )
When Restless, take vitamin "R"
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him
( Psalms 37:7 )
For Dessert;
Whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have eternal life. ( John 3:16 )
Now Friend, it is my hope that you have enjoyed
this meal of Spiritual food. Remember that you may have
all you want, for it is guaranteed to be non-fattening! Amen.
The righteous man leads a blameless life;
blessed are his children after him.
( Proverbs 20:7 *NIV )
Dear Friend,
we will again take a look at what children say, and see the World
through the eyes of a six year old. After all,
Children's children
are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride
of their children. ( Proverbs 17:6 )
Now the following was sent to me by one of our subscribers,
and it teaches us the following lesson,
DON'T EVER TRY TO ARGUE WITH CHILDREN...
1) A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher
said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human
because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very
small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.
Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a
human; it was physically impossible.
The little girl said, "When I get to Heaven I will ask Jonah".
The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?"
The little girl replied, "Then you ask him".
2) A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children
while they drew. She would occasionally walk around to see each
child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently,
she asked what the drawing was? The girl replied, "I'm drawing
God." The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God
looks like." Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing,
the girl replied, "They will in a minute."
3) A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments
with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to
"honor" thy Father and thy Mother," she asked, "is there a
commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"
Without hesitating one little boy (the oldest in his family) answered,
"Thou shall not kill."
4) One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the
dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had
several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette
head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are
some of your hairs white, Mom?" Her mother replied, "Well, every
time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one
of my hairs turns white." The little girl thought about this revelation
for a while and then said, "Momma, how come ALL of grandma's hairs
are white then?"
5) The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was
trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture.
"Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up
and say, 'There's Jennifer; she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael. He's
a doctor.'" A small voice at the back of the room rang out, "And
there's the teacher, She's dead."
Now Friend, I hope that you enjoyed these as much as I!
Have a great weekend! Amen
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY
For this is what the Lord says; As a
mother comforts her child, so will I
comfort you;
( Isaiah 66:13 *NIV )
Dear Friend,
We can not measure the tremendous love that God
has for His Children in human terms. However, I do
believe the closest thing on Earth to that great love,
is the love a Mother has for her child!
Therefore, on this day we honor that special lady
in our life, our Mother. So; May your father
and mother be glad; may she who gave you
birth rejoice! ( Proverbs 23:25 )
and may she
be filled with God's Love, Hope, Faith, and Peace today
and everyday!
The following was sent to me by one of our Brother's-
In-Christ, some time ago. I feel that it is appropriate to
share it with you today. It is called:
Why are you crying, Mom?
"Why are you crying?" he asked his Mom. "Because I'm a
woman" she told him. "I don't understand," he said. His
Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will"..........
Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother
seem to cry for no reason? "All women cry for no reason"
was all his dad could say........
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering
why women cry...
Finally he put in a call to GOD; when GOD got on the phone
the man said, "GOD, why do women cry so easily?"
and GOD said.......
When I made woman, she had to be special. I made her
shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the World;
yet, gentle enough to give comfort....
I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the
rejection that many times comes from her children......
I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when
everyone else gives up and take care of her family through
sickness and fatigue without complaining......
I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and
all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very
badly...
This same sensitivity helps her to make a child's boo-boo
feel better and shares in their teenagers anxieties and
fears.......
I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults
and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.....
I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts
his wife, but, sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve
to stand beside him unfalteringly.....
I gave her tears to shed. They are hers to use whenever she
needs them. They are her secret strength. They make her
more like ME.....

Now may the God of patience and comfort
grant you to be like-minded toward one
another, according to Christ Jesus,
( Romans15:5 *NKJV )
Dear Friend:
Today in this fast paced World we live in, patience is becoming
a lost art! We may even think that God isn't hearing our prayers
because they aren't answered instantly.
When you find yourself feeling that way remember to;
Rest in
the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. ( PSALM 37:7 )
So , why not slow down and practice patience, as well
as, take time to enjoy the simple things in life such as:
TAKING TIME
Take time to think...It is the source of
power.
Take time to play...It is the secret of
perpetual youth.
Take time to read...It is the fountain of
wisdom.
Take time to pray...It is the greatest power
on Earth.
Take time to love and be loved...It is a God-
given privilege.
Take time to be friendly...It is the road to
happiness.
Take time to laugh...It is the music of the
soul.
Take time to give...It is too short a day to be
selfish.
Take time to work...It is the price of
success.
Take time to do charity...It is the key to
Heaven.

Now, Friend, have a Wonderful Friday, and may it be
Blessed as well. Amen.
It is written: SPEAK TO ONE ANOTHER WITH PSALMS,
HYMNS AND SPIRITUAL SONGS. SING AND MAKE MUSIC
IN YOUR HEART TO THE LORD.
(EPHESIANS 5:19)
Dear Friend,
God's precious word was written to help us, and to be
studied, understood, and applied. The Book of Psalms
lends itself most directly to helping us deal with our day
to day emotions. For they put into words our deepest
hurts, longings, thoughts and prayers. They gently push
us toward being what God designed us to be, that is
people loving and living for Him!
So today we will look at some of the reasons to read
The book of PSALMS.
WHEN YOU WANT........... READ....
To know how to come to God each day............PSALM 5
To understand yourself more clearly ..................PSALM 8
To please God...................................................PSALM 15
To find comfort ..................................................PSALM 23
To learn more about God ..................................PSALM 24
To be forgiven for your sins ...............................PSALM 51
To learn a new song .........................................PSALM 92
To meet God intimately .....................................PSALM 103
To know why you should worship God .............PSALM 104
To understand why you should read the Bible...PSALM 119

So why not relax and read a good book tonight, the Book
of Psalms that is! Amen.
Wait on the Lord ; Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait,
I say, on the Lord!
( Psalms 27:14 *NKJV )
Dear Friend,
As we all know, there are times in this life when we
become discouraged, and feel like giving up on a person,
place or thing. Then that causes us to lose confidence
in ourselves.
Therefore when you are facing such a situation do not
give up, but turn to;
Him who is able to do exceedingly
abundantly above all that we ask or think,
according to the power that works in us.
( Ephesians 3:20 ) For it is important that you;
Do not cast
away your confidence, which has great reward.
( Hebrews 10:35 )
So Friend, do not give up or become discouraged!
Instead ask for God's help and wait on His timing, and
if it still doesn't happen, know that He has something or
someone even better planned for you! For you may;
Be
confident of this very thing, that He who has
begun a good work in you will complete it until
the day of Jesus Christ. ( Philippians 1:6 )
Therefore;
To Him be glory in the Church by Christ
Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
( Ephesians 3:21 )
Now from the sixth hour (noon) until the ninth hour
( 3 P M ) there was darkness over all the land. And
about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a
loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn
in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked,
and the rocks were split.
( Matthew 27:45 & 51 *NKJV )
Friend , the Holy Veil being torn from top to bottom
signified God's opening up the Temple [Church] to all
people, Gentile as well as Jew. Thus making us all part
of the Body of Christ!
You see, the temple veil separated the most holy place
called the "Holy of Holies," where God was to reside, from
the people. Only the high priest was allowed to pass behind
the veil, and then only on the "Day of Atonement." (see LEV
16:20) Thus, the people of the Old Testament could only
approach God through a priest and a blood sacrifice to be
forgiven of their sins. A young male lamb was the customary
sacrifice offered for this in the Temple at Jerusalem.
Also of Note; Jesus died exactly at 3 PM, which was the
exact time of the evening sacrifice at the Temple.
Therefore Christ became our sacrifice, for that is why
John the Baptist said;
"Behold! The Lamb of God who
takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)
when he saw Jesus coming. Also the Apostle Paul wrote;
For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed
for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Amen
( 1 CORINTHIANS 5:7 )
Have a Wonderful Easter, Pat, and why not attend
the Church of your choice, if you don't already, and
celebrate Christ's Resurrection this Sunday!
Also if you have children, please teach them what
Easter is really all about, so they do not grow up thinking
it is only about bunny rabbits and colored eggs and candy.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your
strength.
( Deuteronomy 6:5 *NIV )
Dear Friend,
It is very easy to love the Lord with all your being
when you think about how much He loves each of us.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and
only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that
He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in
Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
( John 3:16 )
Further, Jesus Christ said;
Greater love has no one
than this, that He lay down His life for His friends. You
are my friends if you do what I command.
( John 15:13-14 )
Therefore;
And so we know and rely on the love
God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives
in God, and God in him.
Thus it is only right to show God
our love by worshiping Him, for; Yet the time is coming
and has now come when the true worshipers will worship
the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of
worshipers the Father seeks.
( 1 John 4:16 ) & ( John 4:23 )
So Friend,
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under
His care. Amen. ( Psalm 95:6-7 )
